Payments, fares & billing complete guide

ARU processes payments securely through leading payment gateways. Here's everything you need to know about adding payment methods, understanding your fare, and resolving billing issues.

Accepted payment methods by region

  • New Zealand: Visa, Mastercard, credit/debit cards via Stripe.

  • Nigeria: Cards, bank transfers, and USSD via Paystack and Flutterwave; mobile money wallets.

  • All regions: ARU Wallet (topped up in-app for faster checkout).

How your fare is calculated

Every fare is calculated using the following formula set by ARU's admin team per country:

  • Base fare: A flat starting fee per trip type (ride or delivery).
  • Per-kilometre rate: Charged based on the distance of your trip.
  • Add-on charges: Moving help, fragile item handling, floor delivery, and delivery insurance each add a defined fee.
  • Surge pricing: During high-demand periods (rush hour, bad weather), fares may increase. You'll always see a surge notice before confirming.

The full estimated fare is shown before you confirm your booking. No hidden charges.

Good to know: Prices vary by country. New Zealand fares are set differently than Nigerian fares to reflect local economic conditions. You'll always pay in your local currency.

Adding or removing a payment method

1

Go to Account → Payments

From the home screen, tap your profile icon and select Payments.

2

Tap 'Add payment method'

Choose card, mobile money, or bank transfer depending on your region.

3

Enter your details and save

For cards, your details are tokenised by our payment gateway — ARU never stores your raw card data.

To remove a method, tap it and select "Remove." You must always have at least one active payment method on file.

Requesting a refund

Refunds are available in the following situations:

  • Driver did not arrive and the trip was auto-cancelled.
  • You were charged incorrectly (e.g. wrong route used).
  • Delivery was not completed but payment was taken.

To request a refund, go to Trip History → Select trip → Report an issue → Request refund. Approved refunds are returned to your original payment method within 3–7 business days depending on your bank or wallet provider.

Driver payouts

Driver earnings are tallied in real time and visible under the Earnings tab. Payouts are processed every Monday for the previous week's completed trips. Funds are transferred to your registered bank account or mobile money wallet. Processing typically takes 1–2 business days after the payout is initiated.

Payout hold: New driver accounts may have a 7-day hold on their first payout while our payments team completes verification. This is a one-time process.
